Basil Ranch Dressing

January 23, 2017

It's so much healthier for you & your family when you make your own salad dressings. Not only will you eliminate all the additives found in commercially prepared dressings, but you also have full control over the quality of the ingredients. I think you'll find this one especially tasty!

Yield: approximately 2 cups / 8 servings

Ingredients

1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt or sour cream

1/2 cup Smart Balance or Hellman's Real mayonnaise

1/4 to 1/2 cup organic milk, depending on how thick you like your dressing (see Tip# 1)

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, loosely packed

1/3 cup thinly sliced scallions

1/2 cup roughly chopped fresh basil, loosely packed

8 baby spinach leaves, roughly chopped

1 large garlic clove, finely minced

2 tsp fresh squeezed lemon juice

1/4 tsp kosher or sea salt

Fresh ground black pepper, 5 to 8 pepper mill turns

Directions

1 Some of the ingredients.

2 Place all the ingredients in a blender or bullet & process till smooth.

3 Refrigerate at least 6 hours allowing the ingredients to marry & attain maximum flavor.

4 Shake/mix & serve with your salads (see Tip# 2).

  1. I’m a sucker for a great ranch dressing and I love the idea of adding basil, such a refreshing fresh dressing! Love it, thanks so much for sharing 🙂

  2. Love a healthy dressing! I grow a lot of basil at home, will have to try this. Thanks for sharing, Simone!

  3. I love the fresh green color of this dressing. The addition of basil sounds so delectable, too, and I can’t wait to try this out. (Maybe I can get my husband to finally eat his greens with the addition of this dressing!)

  4. That looks so good! and I imagine it can be used on so much more than salads.I mean that’t a great use for it but.

  5. This dressing looks so good. I bet it will taste great on grilled veggies. Hmmm.. I will try that tonight! Thanks for the idea to take my plain grilled veggies to the next level!

  6. Love basil and this dressing looks so versatile… Any suggestion to replace the Greek yogurt or sour cream for lactose-intolerant folks? I usually substitute coconut cream in warm dishes, but I’m not this will work here. Thanks!

    1. I agree Isabel, not sure about the coconut cream… it may not be a great addition to the flavor. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a sour cream at the store that was made for people who are lactose intolerant. I would ask at one of your larger supermarkets, they can probably direct you to where you’ll find it if they carry it.

  7. I love making my own salad dressings. So much healthier than store-bought dressings. I love both Ranch dressing and basil so this combo sounds like it will be a new favorite!

  8. This dressing looks amazing! I have a feeling it will quickly become a favorite after I harvest some basil from my garden and whip this up. I’m not sure if I can’t wait the full 6 hours, I may have to test it out sooner than that at lunch 🙂

  9. I’m all about homemade dressings and Vinaigrette. This looks beautiful – love the color. Reminds me of Green Goddess. This is a must try and soon. Sounds Delish
